Zweiwege-Unimog 406

In the post-war period, A.  Friedrich developed a universal motorised device (UniMog), a kind of tractor, working machine and equipment carrier in one. In the early 1960s, the demand for the more powerful Unimog 406 increased and new tyres and a new hydraulic system for driving new attachments were specially developed for the vehicle. During the late 1960s, this type developed into a popular series, but demand dropped sharply in the mid-1970s as new types were still coming onto the market. From 1979 onwards, the 406 was no longer developed to any significant extent.

Our Unimog is equipped for use as a two-way vehicle, i.e. it can drive both on the road and on tracks. For this purpose, it complies with the vehicle loading gauge valid for railway vehicles and is equipped with corresponding signal lights and acoustic warning signal. Before the vehicle came to us, it was used at the Merck KGaA plant in Gernsheim.
