The Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR) used the term “Rekowagen” to describe railway coaches that were created after a fundamental modernisation of pre-war coaches. After the success of the reconstruction of two-axle wagons, the numerous four-axle compartment passenger cars were reconstructed from state railway stocks. For this purpose, the underframes of the old carriages were brought to the same length. Series production began in 1964. In the 1970s, additional dining cars were built for Mitropa. These were built in the Reichsbahn repair works in Halberstadt as type Wrge.

Our car was accepted there and put into service in 1974. It was used in a cream-brown livery in the city express.  In 1986, it was converted into a buffet car and retired from service in 1993. After that, the car went to the Darmstadt-Kranichstein railway museum. As a buffet car, it has no seats, in contrast to the dining car, but only standing places.
