After the war, there was a high demand for baggage wagons for long-distance express trains. For this purpose, the car bodies of two MCi-43 makeshift passenger carriages were joined together and placed on two bogies of American design. The cars built from 1950 onwards were designated MPw4yg. While the first cars only had open access platforms, these were fitted with a “transition tunnel” and a rubber bead to provide a dry transition to the next car in later time. The wagons initially ran in express service, later in express freight and district service. In 1966 the wagons were re-designated MDyg-986 and modernised and were in service until the 1990s.
