The lower part of the long boiler must be replaced. Fabrication and installation of the replacement part will be carried out by Bilfinger Berger BIS Industrial Services. In addition, the patch of the bootjack plate previously made in Kranichstein is to be welded in place. The boiler will therefore be loaded for transport to Frankfurt at the beginning of 2010.
While the boiler and undercarriage are still out, we are rebuilding the smokebox “in-house”. The door wall of the smoke chamber (Figs. 1 and 2 below) consists of a blank that is first cut to fit the door. Then the sealing ring is welded on. Picture 3 shows: the door fits! Now the burrs of the weld seams have to be ground off (picture 4).
In the last picture, the smoke box is just starting to roll. Even the very young ones are lending a hand! Later, the end part will be welded to this weft and the previously recovered chimney cap will be mounted.
