Event and photo location
If you want to organise a conference, a company or family celebration in a unique setting, or if you have an affinity for the railway, then holdyour event or party in the midst of the heavy old steam engines and experience the charm of the technology of days gone by.
Premises
We offer seating for up to 200 people in our roundhouse. From beer tent seating to restaurant seating, from bratwurst grills to gala menus, you will find a wide range of options in our premises. We also have a suitable offer for small groups of up to 30 people!
The outdoor area around the engine shed and the turntable is ideal for smaller open-air events. Party tents can also be set up or the open wagon repair shed can be used. Please note that sound for your event is only possible until 10.00 pm out of consideration for our neighbours.
The shed and outdoor lighting provides good basic illumination. Additional ambient lighting provides atmospheric lighting effects for that special flair, especially at later hours.

Catering
We will be happy to assist you with the planning and provide you with contacts to suitable caterers. In order to get to know the local conditions, we recommend arranging an on-site appointment with your caterer before the celebration.
We bring variety into your event!
Combine your event with our options from the world of the railway of days gone by and offer your guests a varied programme of demonstrations, guided tours of our collections or a ride in the driver’s cab on our steam or diesel locomotives.
By train to the celebration
We are also happy to offer you and your guests a ride on our historic museum train, for example from Darmstadt’s main train station directly to the museum.
Have we aroused your interest? We will be happy to advise you and create a tailor-made offer.

Special trip
As a “living museum” we regularly offer special trips with our operational vehicles on the DB AG network. Would you like to enjoy such an experience exclusively with your group of guests? No problem! We will take you with our steam train to (almost) any destination to which rails lead.

Photo location
No matter whether you are dedicated to “Urban Exploration” or the photo session with models. With us you will always find the right motif. The different areas between vintage, working worlds of the past up to lost places form a great backdrop for your photos. You will find locomotives from all decades as well as historic passenger coaches in which people travelled on plush-covered 1st class seats as well as in wooden class.
Extraordinary photo motifs
Are you amateur photographer(s) looking for unusual photo motifs? You are welcome to get to know the museum creatively as part of a special guided tour (also outside regular opening hours). For professional photo shoots with a model or wedding couple, we will also provide you with a member of staff who will instruct you and show you the best spots.
Experience the Railway Museum at "Blue Hour"

Our special highlight for all photo enthusiasts is the “Blue Hour”, an event where the grounds of the Railway Museum are cordoned off exclusively for photographers to take impressive shots of our various vehicles and experience the museum in a special atmosphere. Around the locomotive shed, the various vehicles will be appropriately illuminated and presented. In addition, glowing studs are forged in the historic forge, which provides unique motifs in the darkness.
The “Blue Hour” usually takes place on the eve of the Steam Locomotive Festival in September, please refer to our calendar of events.
