After we had focused our work on the maintenance of the grounds, buildings and vehicles in the last few months, the desire for more “operation” grew. Since the conditions for this have changed in many places in recent years, a trial run was first organised.
After all the documents, personnel and timetables were ready, employees and supporters of Bahnwelt Darmstadt Kranichstein as well as their families went on tour on 31.07.22. The destination was Erbach in the Odenwald.
The destination was Erbach in the Odenwald.
In bright sunshine, we started almost on time at the wagon hall on the museum grounds. Hauled by the V90 of the Pfalzbahn, we first went to Darmstadt main station. After a short stop and the transfer of the locomotive, we set off.
While some finally let the wind blow around their noses again at the window or on the platforms of the “blunderbusses”, others relaxed with cool drinks and interesting conversations.
There was a lot to discover on the route, which was well worth seeing. Among other things, the historic lighting in the two tunnels bathed the wagons in an evening atmosphere.
Once we arrived in Erbach, we continued on our own. The Wiesenmarkt with its numerous rides and stalls was a tempting place. Those who preferred a quieter pace took a stroll around Erbach Castle and treated themselves to a delicious ice cream to cool off.
The return journey to Darmstadt started at 16:35. Here, too, there was a short stopover, this time in Babenhausen, to transfer the locomotive. We reached our destination on time with the sun still shining.
All in all, it was an eventful day and a successful test run. We are now planning to offer further special trips for those who are interested. Please check our homepage for information on upcoming events.
Finally, we would like to thank everyone who supported us in organising the trip, especially the Pfalzbahn and Klaus Ulshöfer. Ralph Schnabel accompanied the ride on the road and provided us with the snapshots of the train set.
