Between the years, on 28.12. and 29.12.2022, the railway museum organized the model railway days with model railway exchange.
The focus was on the newly designed training interlocking. Using two mechanical interlockings of different designs, a model replica of the Neckar-Bischofsheim – Aschaffenburg-Nilkheim line is used to demonstrate what is required for a train to travel safely from station to station. As a special novelty, a camera image was transmitted from the push-pull control car used in the adjacent room of the signal box and one could drive the train oneself. An experienced railwayman sat next to it and explained the operational procedures from the driver’s point of view. Many guests – young and old alike – gladly accepted this offer.
The model railway of Darmstadt’s main station from 1846 was also demonstrated, with the historic trains again making many children’s hearts beat faster.
In another room of the museum building, a demonstration was given of how electricity is generated from steam. Two old model steam engines from Märklin and Fleischmann were used. For fire protection reasons, however, they were operated with air. With the generated electricity a small model train could turn its rounds. Furthermore, a beautiful historical model layout with matching vehicles from the 50s could be marveled at.
In the waiting room of the museum, sales booths were set up and one or the other model train treasure changed hands. The team of the cafeteria entertained the guests with coffee, cake and snacks.
We thank all guests for visiting and wish you a happy and healthy new year 2023!
