A rail tractor is a small autonomous vehicle for various services in railway operations. They form a special type of locomotive. Smaller than switching locomotives, they can drive individual railway wagons and short auxiliary trains on their own.
Our locomotive was ordered in 1937 by the Maschinen-Einkaufs-Zentrale landwirtschaftlicher Genossenschaften (Mezentra) for the Bäuerliche Hauptgenossenschaft Rhein-Main-Neckar in Stockheim/Oberhessen. It was used there for minor switching work and came to our museum after being taken out of service in 1995.
