The Class T locomotives built for the Royal Württemberg State Railways (K.W.St.E) from 1896-1904 were shunting tender locomotives with two coupled axles. It comprised seven rebuilt Class E tender locomotives and ten new locomotives built by Maschinenbau-Gesellschaft Heilbronn. With a length of 6.38 metres, it was the smallest locomotive in the German Reichsbahn’s fleet.
Our locomotive “T1005” was delivered to the Royal Württemberg State Railways on 13 December 1899 with the factory number 374 and was used by the Tübingen and Stuttgart machine inspectorates. In 1921, it was sold to the Hohenzollerische Hüttenwerke in Laucherthal near Sigmaringen, where it was used as a plant locomotive from then on. Decommissioned in the mid-1970s, it was purchased privately and made available to the Darmstadt-Kranichstein Railway Museum as a loan from 20 May 1977. In 1979, the locomotive was transferred to the German Steam Locomotive Museum in Neuenmarkt-Wirsberg and in 1986 it was transferred again to the German Museum of Technology in Berlin (DTM). In 2025, Bahnwelt was able to buy the unique locomotive from the DTM and bring it back to Darmstadt-Kranichstein. The T1005 is one of the oldest surviving standard-gauge steam locomotives.
