Some will have wondered why a track was extended out through the back wall of the new locomotive shed. This mystery is easy to solve, as this leads to our two wheelset turning machines, where we can give old, worn wheel tyres a new tread. One of the two large machines is hidden under a protective tarpaulin in the photo on the right.
Why a good tread on the tyres is just as important for railway vehicles as it is for cars can be found out in our superstructure exhibition.
To make the path not only passable again, but also passable, we have built a level crossing with special concrete slabs. This allows visitors, but also our construction machines, to cross the extension of track 10 more comfortably.
