The Museum of the Bahnwelt is located in the north-east of Darmstadt, between the suburbs Arheilgen and Kranichstein.
It is in the former Kranichstein depot near the railway line between Darmstadt
and Aschaffenburg and is easy to reach by local public transport.

Local public transport

Tram lines 4 and 5:
“Kranichstein Bahnhof” stop

Bus line A:
Stop “Wachtelweg” or “Steinstraße”

The RMV journey planner on the right also includes tram and bus connections.

Train

On the other side of the museum’s tracks is the railway station “Darmstadt-Kranichstein”. The station is served several times an hour by the Regionalbahn 75. From there it is a few minutes’ walk to the museum.

Car

Parking facilities on site:

On regular opening days of the museum, sufficient free parking spaces are available in the museum yard. During major and special events, the yard is closed. Then parking space is designated in the immediate vicinity of the museum.

Accessibility - for people with a disability

Unfortunately, the museum grounds have limited accessibility. However, the museum team is doing its best to enable people with disability to access the exhibits and displays. Please do not hesitate to contact us, preferably in advance.

To the museum line Darmstadt Ost - Bessunger Forsthaus

Special trips with our historic steam trains take place on an approx. 4-kilometre-long section of the former Darmstadt Ost – Groß-Zimmern railway line.

Train

The Regionalbahn 81 runs regularly from Darmstadt main station in the direction of Erbach, stopping at station “Darmstadt-Ost”.

Local public transport

Various tram and bus lines regularly stop at the station “Darmstadt-Ost”.

Car

At the station “Darmstadt-Ost” there is sufficient free parking available in front of the former station building (now a bicycle shop)
