The Museum

The Darmstadt-Kranichstein Railway Museum is the largest railway museum in Hessen. It is located on the area of the railway depot of the former Darmstadt-Kranichstein switch yard on the “Rhein-Main-Bahn”, which runs from Mainz via Darmstadt to Aschaffenburg.

The locomotive exhibition is housed in the historic roundhouse, while the wagon collection is presented in the former freight wagon repair hall, which still serves its purpose as a workshop for the wagon fleet.

The museum also has its own museum line from Darmstadt-Ost to the Bessunger Forsthaus stop. Due to necessary maintenance measures that are currently not feasible, operation on the line is suspended.
