Since the start of construction work on the Riedbahn, the number of goods trains entering and leaving the former Darmstadt-Kranichstein marshalling yard has also increased: This is due to the ballast block trains for supplying the Riedbahn construction site, which are “temporarily parked” in Kranichstein on call for transport to the construction site. The same applies to the return transport of empty wagons from the construction site. DB-InfraGo had renewed three points specifically for these tasks at the beginning of the year in order to ensure the necessary stabling capacity for the tracks used by DB-Bau in the long term.
