The new ‘Bahnwelt’ calendar shows ‘Bahnwelt’ as a museum in operation

In the Bahnwelt 2027 calendar, we look back on the activities of the past three years. During this time, we were able to organise numerous journeys using both our own railway rolling stock and guest rolling stock. We have compiled the finest moments from these special trips for you in this calendar.

Many of these journeys would not have been possible without close cooperation with partner organisations, railway operators, heritage railways and private rolling stock owners – whether in terms of providing historic rolling stock, organising joint special trips or lending rolling stock to one another. The world of railway museums and heritage railways thrives on cooperation, mutual trust and the shared aim of preserving railway heritage and bringing it to life.

The Bahnwelt Darmstadt-Kranichstein sees itself not merely as a museum, but as a working museum, as our rolling stock is not simply on display in the hall. The rolling stock is looked after, maintained and put into service on a regular basis. It is only when in operation that historic locomotives and carriages reveal their true character and allow visitors to experience the technology first-hand.

Behind every journey lie countless hours of voluntary work. The various areas – the workshop, vehicle maintenance, infrastructure, organisation and operations – must mesh together like cogs in a wheel. This enables us not only to preserve history, but also to bring it to life time and time again. With this in mind, we are guided by a principle that aptly describes our daily work:

“Tradition is not about preserving ashes, but about keeping a flame alight.”

The calendar is now available at the Railway Museum during opening hours for €25 and will soon be available to order from the Bahnwelt online shop. If you would like the calendar to be posted, a delivery charge of €10 will apply.
