De ketel werd langzaam en voorzichtig opgewarmd. Na ongeveer 6 uur had de ketel de nodige druk. De locomotief werd eerst met verwijderde schuiven door een kleine locomotief uit de locomotiefloods geduwd om de cilinders bij iets minder dan 6 bar uit te blazen. Dit verwijderde vuil van het werk van de stoommachine. Voorts werden de aggregaten van de locomotief (lucht- en voedingspomp, alsmede de dynamo) in bedrijf gesteld. Voor het eerst sinds mei 2019 kwam de 23 042 op eigen kracht uit de locomotiefloods. Voorts vonden een basissmering van alle smeerpunten en verscheidene rondritten over het terrein plaats voor het personeel dat bij de hoofdinspectie betrokken was.\r\n\r\nAl met al was de warming-up een compleet succes en de crew is erg trots op wat er is bereikt!
