For some of them, however, it was the first time they had been able to experience the maintenance of steam locomotives in an authentic environment in a railway depot with a roundhouse, turntable and locomotive treatment facilities. The layout of the locomotive shed with its workshop track, axle sink and smithy offered visitors a previously unknown environment, the atmosphere of which was particularly well received.
