Even though things are a little quieter at the railway museum at the turn of the year, work has continued on a few construction sites over the past 14 days.<\/p>\n

During a test of the air pump of the ELNA 184 DEG, irregularities occurred in the lubrication press of the unit. As a result, the component that supplies the moving parts of the air pump with lubricating oil had to be dismantled, cleaned and repaired in the museum workshop<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

In addition to the maintenance and care of the vehicles and other collections of the railway museum, the maintenance of the infrastructure of the former railway depot is an essential part of the museum’s work. The condition of the museum’s tracks must also be checked at regular intervals.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

During the most recent survey of beam track 14 at the turntable, it was found that the sleepers and the track bed in the front section could no longer guarantee compliance with the standard gauge of 1435 mm between the two rails. The track was therefore closed and the old rails and sleepers as well as the ballast were initially removed from the affected 14 metre long section of track.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

A load-bearing layer of new ballast was then placed in the excavated track bed before new concrete sleepers were laid. As the old rails themselves were no longer in the best condition, two new rails were installed at the same time. These first had to be cut to the correct length.<\/p>\n

Finally, the resulting track bay was aligned, filled with ballast and tamped.
