Last Easter weekend, the Railway Museum invited visitors to two opening days with many exciting attractions. First, visitors were able to view the vehicle exhibition in the engine shed during entertaining guided tours. They learned a lot of interesting facts about the exhibits from over 175 years of railroad history. The history and task of the Darmstadt-Kranichstein rail depot, which was opened around 125 years ago, was also highlighted.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

A detour to the museum’s exhibition buildings offered the opportunity to view collections on the subject of railroad uniforms, tickets and superstructure. In addition, the newly overhauled and expanded training signal box was demonstrated, in which railroad operating procedures are vividly illustrated. Finally, the detailed model railroad layout of the former Darmstadt main station from 1842 also attracted fascinated looks from the visitors.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The highlight of the event for young and old was certainly the ride on the historic museum train. To everyone’s pleasant surprise, we were able to provide a steam locomotive instead of a diesel locomotive for the train at short notice. We used 23 042, built in 1954, with an authentic set of “Donnerb\u00fcchsen” from the 1930s. The trip took place on the grounds of the former Kranichstein marshalling yard from the boarding stop “Wagenhalle” up to the hump, then in the direction of the level crossing and back. Despite the rather short distance for the power class of the 23 042, the engine was able to show what power it has in it.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The Easter Bunny obviously enjoyed the spectacle so much that he spent both Easter days with us on the grounds. The children, who were not already fascinated by the steam locomotive, were able to put a happy smile on their faces.
