{"id":16778,"date":"2022-12-06T22:03:25","date_gmt":"2022-12-06T21:03:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bahnwelt.de\/veranstaltung\/small-model-railway-exchange-in-the-railway-museum-between-the-years\/"},"modified":"2026-09-09T20:49:25","modified_gmt":"2026-09-09T18:49:25","slug":"small-model-railway-exchange-in-the-railway-museum-between-the-years","status":"publish","type":"mec-events","link":"https:\/\/bahnwelt.de\/en\/event\/small-model-railway-exchange-in-the-railway-museum-between-the-years\/","title":{"rendered":"Christmas model railway days at the railway museum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On 28 and 29 December 2026, Bahnwelt Darmstadt-Kranichstein will once again be hosting its traditional Christmas model railway days.<\/p>\n<p>The name says it all: the focus is on all the model railway and demonstration layouts at the Railway Museum, including the \u2018Lehrstellwerk\u2019 and \u2018Darmstadt Main Station 1846\u2019 demonstration layouts. The Railway Museum\u2019s model-making group will be showcasing model railway layouts featuring various scenes in the \u2018MobaTrain\u2019 exhibition train. There will also be an update on the group\u2019s latest project: the construction of a new model display layout, over 12 metres in size, entitled \u2018Darmstadt-Kranichstein Freight Yard and Depot\u2019. This layout will allow railway operations at the former marshalling yard to be vividly depicted in model form, even after the construction of the ICE stabling facility. In addition, a small model railway exchange is planned.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from the model railway, visitors can view the extensive uniform collection, the ticket and track-bed exhibitions, and an exhibition on the theme of \u2018Railways in Darmstadt\u2019. Our caf\u00e9 invites you to enjoy a cosy get-together over coffee and cake in a historic setting. Due to the winter break, it is not possible to view the original rolling stock in the locomotive shed.<\/p>\n<p>Admission is free, but donations are welcome.<\/p>\n<p>The association\u2019s volunteers are looking forward to welcoming lots of visitors!<\/p>\n<h6>The programme in detail:<\/h6>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\">Model railway of Darmstadt Central Station from 1846<\/li>\n<li layouts<\/li>\n<li>Presentation of the \u2018Darmstadt-Kranichstein Freight Yard and Depot\u2019 project<\/li>\n<li>Exhibition on the theme of \u2018Railways in Darmstadt\u2019<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Demonstration facility: \u2018Turning steam into electricity\u2019<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">Model Railway Exchange<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">Permanent exhibitions: rolling stock, tickets, uniforms<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">Historic M\u00e4rklin Ferris wheel<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">Museum caf\u00e9<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">Book and souvenir shop (Last
