Dampflokfest

This year we would like to present living railway history to you once again.

The Railway Museum will celebrate the Steam Locomotive Festival on 17 and 18 September 2022 from 10:00 to 18:00 each day.

The steam locomotives 23 042 and ELNA “184 DME” and various diesel locomotives will be presented on the turntable. There will also be driver’s cab rides with changing locomotives. You can also take a short ride in the Wismar rail bus “Schweineschnäuzchen” and in a Bahnmeisterei-Draisine!

Our collections and exhibitions on railways, which cannot be shown on the usual opening days, will also be on display again: The Oberbau Collection, the Ticket Printing Office and the model layout of the former Darmstadt station of the Main Neckar Railway. The original stood on today’s Steubenplatz and was replaced by today’s main station in 1912. The railway uniform collection shows the development from the civil servant representing the state authority from the imperial era to the customer-oriented service provider according to today’s understanding. All exhibitions are staffed and demonstrated.

Visits to the driver’s cab are offered on steam, diesel and electric locomotives, and the interior of a rail bus and the Berlin S-Bahn railcar can also be viewed.

Also open is the Mobatrain with several model railway layouts and lots of information on the subject of railway model construction.

For the children, the popular passenger-carrying garden railway will be running in circles. In addition, a large bouncy castle awaits our little guests in the children’s area.
